| Guinan (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Captain Robert April (Star Trek). This cartoon is first in both production and chronological order of a set of two expanding Guinan's place in The Hero of Three Faces continuity. Here we see she has been part of Starfleet history since it began appearing on our screens, and shortly it will be seen that Guinan is a spacetime, fiction-plane traveler as widely traveled as the Doctor is, sometimes accompanied by other Star Trek characters as the Doctor has companions (one of those, Wesely Crusher, later going on to become a spacetime traveler with his own companions in screen continuity). Her method for traveling is unknown at this writing and I don't think we'll ever find out. I wanted to bring in a character to be the Doctor's equal who was black and female, and I didn't want to invent one because saluting the existing characters you love is what fanfiction is for. The script for this cartoon is kind of weak for the reason that it really exists only to set up this one. Sometimes, in order to give Guinan better exposure in this, I go back to cartoons with the Doctor where the dialog could have been given to any time-traveler, and I edit the art so it's Guinan instead. |
